{"id":10299,"date":"2023-11-18T11:01:16","date_gmt":"2023-11-18T11:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rakmediaoffice.ae\/?p=10299"},"modified":"2023-11-20T11:09:44","modified_gmt":"2023-11-20T11:09:44","slug":"ras-al-khaimah-ruler-attends-rak-terry-fox-charity-fun-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rakmediaoffice.ae\/en\/media-center\/ras-al-khaimah-ruler-attends-rak-terry-fox-charity-fun-run\/","title":{"rendered":"Ras Al Khaimah Ruler attends RAK Terry Fox charity fun run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- VideographyWP Plugin Message: Automatic video embedding prevented by plugin options. --><br \/>\nHis Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, stated that charitable and humanitarian values are inherent in Ras Al Khaimah society and act as a compass to guide us to a more prosperous and cooperative world, as he started the 13<sup>th<\/sup> RAK Terry Fox Run on Al Qawasim Corniche.<\/p>\n<p>The fun run attracted a large number of community members, who took part in 3K and 5K races to raise funds for cancer research.<\/p>\n<p>HH Sheikh Saud praised the noble efforts of the event\u2019s organizers, who aim to fund cancer research, raise awareness of the condition and help communities improve their overall health and quality of life.<\/p>\n<p>The RAK Terry Fox Run, which is a staple in the Emirate\u2019s calendar of events, is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Saud and in cooperation with the Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Charity and Humanitarian Foundation. Proceeds from the race will be donated to UAE University in Al Ain, which conducts scientific research on cancer.<\/p>\n<p>The run is organized in memory of Canadian athlete Terry Fox, who had a leg amputated due to bone cancer in his youth. Despite this challenge, he embarked on an east-to-west cross-Canada run to support cancer research. Although his condition eventually forced him to end his quest after 143 days and 5,373 kilometers, and ultimately cost him his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy.
