His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has met renowned archaeologists from China who are in the Emirate to uncover details about the ancient \u2018Silk Road\u2019 trade links between the Far East and this region.<\/p>\n
Ras Al Khaimah\u2019s Department of Antiquities and Museums has developed a collaboration with the Palace Museum, Beijing, and Durham University, in the UK, to conduct a scientific study in the Emirate to learn more about the Chinese pottery discovered here in recent years.<\/p>\n
Currently, a team of Palace Museum and Durham University experts under Prof Li Ji, Director of the Archaeology Institute, Palace Museum, and Professor Wang Guangyao, Deputy Director of the Archaeology Institute, Palace Museum, are visiting the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah to study the various pieces of pottery with a view to conducting an excavation in the future.<\/p>\n
Prof Guangyao is the leading expert in the world on blue and white pottery from China.<\/p>\n

H.H. Sheikh Saud said: \u201cRas Al Khaimah prides itself on its rich history and culture. Working with the prestigious Palace Museum and Durham University will unearth further discoveries and improve our understanding of the past.<\/p>\n

Ahmed Al Teneiji, General Manager of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, said: \u201cJulfar, as Ras Al Khaimah was previously known, was a major hub on the old trading route from east to west, so it is no surprise that a lot of Chinese pottery has been discovered here.<\/p>\n
