\nRas Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) was named a gold winner by the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) for the\u00a0\u20182018 Affiliate Tourist Office of the Year\u2019\u00a0category during its annual general meeting in London. RAKTDA won the top accolade of Gold ahead of other winners which included Silver –\u00a0Spanish Tourist Office and Bronze – South African Tourism.<\/p>\n
AITO is an umbrella organisation that represents around 120 of the UK\u2019s specialist and independent tour operators. AITO, The Specialist Travel Association, provides its members with guidelines to ensure that travel benefits host communities, respect local cultures, protect the environment and conserve natural resources.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the recognition,\u00a0Haitham Mattar, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority said:\u00a0\u201cWe are incredibly pleased to receive this prestigious accolade from AITO which has been an incredible strategic partner for many years. Last year, RAKTDA announced a partnership with The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), on project\u00a0PROTECT\u00a0– an initiative carried out in partnership with the University of Surrey – as the official sustainable Tourism Sponsor for 2018-2019. Project PROTECT (People, Resources Outreach, Tourism, Environment, Conservation, Tomorrow) was created to help encourage and guide members to adopt better practices in sustainable tourism and to focus on environmental protection in the areas their customers visit.<\/p>\n
Additionally, AITO\u2019s annual overseas conference was held in Ras Al Khaimah in November 2018 and welcomed more than 120 of the UK\u2019s top specialist travel companies to the UAE\u2019s northern Emirate introducing them to the destination with its diverse and spectacular offering.<\/p>\n
