Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority Introduces Further Measures to Protect Guest Wellbeing as Hotel Pools and Beaches Re-Open

<htmlData>

The safety of visitors, residents and hospitality sector employees remains the Authority’s utmost priority

The Authority is working in partnership with hoteliers and Government authorities to implement strict safety measures and ensure compliance with all social distancing advisories

Daily spot checks will be taking place to support hoteliers enforce the measures designed for everyone’s safety

The Authority has introduced the RAK ‘Stay Safe’ Hotel Certification to support hoteliers and give guests confidence for their stay

Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) is working closely with hospitality partners and Government Authorities to safely welcome guests back to the Emirate as restrictions are gradually eased, and hotel pools and beaches become accessible to visitors. To ensure the wellbeing and safety of visitors and employees, the Authority is in ongoing dialogue with hotel partners to ensure they are strictly adhering to government and public health guidelines and complying with all social distancing advisories from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the UAE Federal Authorities.

In Ras Al Khaimah, current hospitality standards and procedures include testing of all hotel staff for COVID-19, provision of masks and gloves for all guests, allocation of separate entrances and exits for guests and staff and mandatory thermal screening at all entrances on arrival. RAKTDA inspectors will also be undertaking daily spot checks to ensure the measures are being adhered to and will provide support from Government Authorities to help hoteliers enforce the protocols designed for guest wellbeing.

To ensure guests have confidence in their stay, RAKTDA is working closely with the Public Service Department (PSD) to oversee a dedicated certification process – the RAK ‘Stay Safe’ Hotel Certification – whereby hotels are required to fulfill a detailed set of measures to attain the certification. The certification assesses all the measures in place across all areas of the hotels including reception and concierge areas, guest rooms, restrooms, restaurants and lounges, pools, beaches, spas fitness areas, kid clubs and retail spaces. Guidelines are also being provided around guest transportation, meeting and function spaces, housekeeping, laundry and waste management.

The ample space within hotel properties in Ras Al Khaimah will also aid social distancing and hotels have expanded in-room dining provisions to further support this important measure.

Raki Phillips, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority comments, “The health and safety of our visitors, residents and colleagues is our utmost priority. We are working closely with our hospitality partners and Government Authorities to ensure the highest standards of hygiene are maintained and that all social distancing advisories are strictly adhered to across the Emirate. Detailed guidance has been shared with our industry partners indicating best practice measures to be implemented across all operations and divisions.”

He added: “To help reassure our guests, colleagues and residents, we have also introduced the RAK ‘Stay Safe’ Hotel Certification that, once awarded, hotels can use to demonstrate their adoption of all the measures in place to protect everyone’s wellbeing. We know that many people are looking forward to what we’ve termed a ‘shortcation’ or longer holiday and our aim is give them the confidence that they can comfortably enjoy their time in Ras Al Khaimah.”

</htmlData>

Dr Muhammad Abdullatif Khalifa, Director General of the RAK Human Resources Department, announced the launch, asserting that the Department’s plans align with the objectives of the ‘2020: Towards the Next 50’ initiative. The facilities were designed with PV solar system provision which RAKEZ clients can use to provide electricity to their machineries and equipment to save on energy. In addition, the warehouses will have insulated external walls to decrease the absorption of heat during the day, thus reducing the energy required to cool the facility, and providing better indoor conditions for the occupants.

“The project will play a significant role in reducing energy and water bills by giving our clients the opportunity to install and use alternative energy resources, such as renewable energy from PV solar panels,” said Ramy Jallad, Group CEO of RAKEZ. “While this provides an economic benefit to our clients, our objective is also to take a step further in educating the business community on the benefits of energy efficiency for the preservation of the environment and for future generations.”

RAKEZ will arrange awareness and training sessions for its stakeholders to familiarise them with Barjeel standards and regulations, as compliance to Barjeel is expected to be mandatory from 2020.

Earlier this year, Ras Al Khaimah Municipality had issued Barjeel, the green building regulations of Ras Al Khaimah, which introduce sustainability standards for new buildings in the emirate. The regulations are undergoing a phase of voluntary application before becoming mandatory in 2020. When consulted on the RAKEZ initiative, HE Munther Mohammed bin Shekar, Director General of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality and Chairman of the RAK Energy Efficiency and Renewables Committee, said: “We value the outstanding efforts that RAKEZ is making in the field of energy efficiency, and we welcome their adoption of Barjeel, as this will contribute to raising design and construction standards in Ras Al Khaimah”.

In line with Ras Al Khaimah’s Energy Efficiency and Renewables Strategy 2040, RAKEZ will continue to find ways to save energy in its facilities. “Our target is to keep improving the energy performance of our buildings through the application of Barjeel and other measures. We always strive to provide a better work environment for our clients,” Jallad added.

</htmlData>

250,000 drivers benefit from RAK radar fine discounts

<htmlData>

While a staggering 448,500 speeding violations have been recorded by traffic radar in Ras Al Khaimah since 2016, up to 250,000 drivers fined for these violations have benefited from a penalty discount initiative launched by Ras Al Khaimah Police.

“Commenced in 2016, the speeding fines discount initiative has been extended several times, with the most recent extension carried out in conjunction with the UAE’s Year of Tolerance. Our aim with the scheme is to help reduce financial expenses for residents and visitors to RAK who are caught speeding by our roadside radar cameras. The initiative offers 50% discount on fines paid within 50 days of the violation and 30% discount on fines paid within 51-81 days. If a fine is outstanding beyond 81 days, then the full amount needs to be paid,” said Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, General Commander of RAK Police.

Major-General Al Nuaimi highlighted that the speeding fines discount initiative aims to improve the quality of life in Ras Al Khaimah by imposing less stringent financial penalties for early payment. He said that it also helps to keep motorists on the road, as accumulated fines can be a barrier to renewing car and vehicle licenses.

RAK Police Launches Forensic Histological Anatomy Laboratory

<htmlData>

Ras Al Khaimah Police has announced the launch of their Forensic Histological Anatomy Laboratory, with the new facility opening on November 1 under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah. Its establishment represents the completion of the first phase of RAK Police’s development of its forensic laboratory network.

Equipped with an array of cutting-edge histology instruments, the new facility will enable forensic pathologists to diagnose microscopic cell damage on deceased persons using highly advanced methods.

A group of trained and qualified expert technicians have been employed by RAK Police to operate the high-tech devices, share their knowledge about histology, anatomy and forensic pathology with the national employees, and train them to use the laboratory’s equipment.

Ras Al Khaimah Police asserted that the new facility will enable their staff to more rapidly determine causes of death and accelerate the removal of confusion in criminal offences, which will, in turn, speed up the course of justice.

The laboratory will enable high quality forensic practice and increase the number of cases that are successfully solved. RAK Police consider it a big step towards achieving ISO 17025 certification ILAC G19, a certification system that creates official standards for forensic science laboratories.

</htmlData>

RAKBANK to continue SME focus, no bond plans despite attractive rates, concerned about Dubai property market CEO

<htmlData>

National Bank of Ras Al-Khaimah (RAKBANK) will continue to focus on lending to small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in the UAE, CEO Peter William England told Debtwire.

The UAE-based bank is “flushed with liquidity” and despite the prevailing rates, the bank’s treasury has no imminent plans to tap the bond market, he said, adding that he has a relatively low expectation for loan growth in the next couple of years.

RAKBANK printed in April a USD 500m 4.125% 2024 bond, garnering over USD 2bn in orders. The proceeds from the sale refinanced the borrower’s USD 500m 3.25% 2019s, as reported.

With a Baa1/BBB+ (Moody’s/Fitch) rating, the lender wants to maintain a strong loan-to-deposit ratio (LDR) as it is closely watched by rating agencies and the bank does not want to rely on capital market borrowings. RAKBANK’s total capital adequacy ratio (CAR) stood at 17.3% as of 30 June 2019, with its Tier 1 capital ratio coming in at 16.2%, according to the bank’s 1H19 results presentation. Its LDR was 90.7% at the end of the first half of 2019.

Customer deposits fund around 70% of the bank’s activities, the EMTN and other capital market borrowing provide 12%, while repo and short-term debt accounts for around 5% of the funding mix, said England. RAKBANK is the largest small business bank in the UAE, which explains its cheap source of funding, he added.

Highly capitalised, RAKBANK suffered “zero impact” from the adoption of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS 9), which GCC banks had to comply with from 1 January 2018. The bank’s provision coverage ratio increased from 74.6% in December 2017 to 133.1% in December 2018, but decreased between June 2018 and June 2019, from 138.7% to 131.8%, according to the latest results presentation.

The bank is carrying so much capital to offset its relatively higher cost of risk, England explained. RAKBANK’s cost of risk was 3.8% at the end of June 2019, almost double the 2% average for UAE banks.

While there may not be a huge opportunity for growth expansion, the bank has grown its lending book to financial institutions to AED 6.1bn (USD 1.66bn), raking in a profit of AED 120m. Outside of the UAE, the bank will mostly lend against trade receivables, like in Bangladesh.

But it has also entered selective wholesale deals in “areas we feel comfortable in”, said England, adding that the countries include Cambodia and South Africa. The lender has been diversifying "into lower risk business by growing its traditional TWC [trade finance and working capital] lending", according to the results presentation.

Ras Al Khaimah Police Launches Two Flagship Projects to Enhance Institutional Performance

<htmlData>

The Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Police General Headquarters has launched two flagship projects to enhance the police department’s performance, namely, the ‘Governance of Improvement and Institutional Development Project’ and the ‘Benchmarking Platform’.

Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of RAK Police, asserted that the projects will provide support for police activities in the emirate, implement greater governance for corporate performance, and take advantage of benchmarking platforms to establish long-term, sustainable corporate learning processes.

The ‘Governance of Improvement and Institutional Development Project’ seeks to bank on opportunities for development identified through the results of inspections by the RAK Police Commander-in-Chief, mystery shoppers, and inspectors, or via opinion polls or reports by local and federal awards committees.

Meanwhile, the ‘Benchmarking Platform’ relies on entering all internal and external benchmarking requests into an electronic system, as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Interior. The project seeks to establish a database of initiatives and benchmarking practices to prevent repetitions, which, in turn, supports national and strategic indexes.

The Institute consists of three training halls that can accommodate 25 people each. The trainees will take part in mandatory theoretical and practical lessons covering prevention conditions for various facilities and underlining their importance. These principles are then implemented by highly competent experts.

Initiative to Promote Vehicle License Plate Renewal

<htmlData>

Ras Al Khaimah Police launched a new traffic initiative titled ‘خالفناك وسامحناك’ to promote vehicle license plate renewal in the emirate – one of the various initiatives RAK Police is launching to mark the Year of Tolerance in the UAE.

The launch took place during a preliminary meeting attended by high-ranking officials from RAK Police and chaired by Brigadier General Jamal Ahmed Al Tayer, Director-General of Resources and Support Services at the RAK Police General Directorate.

“The new initiative serves the Ministry of Interior’s objective to improve the public’s satisfaction with services offered, and enhance safety and security on the roads,” said Brigadier General Al Tayer.

The initiative calls on motorists to renew their license plates as soon as possible – particularly those with plates that have been damaged or erased – seeing as the UAE’s Federal Traffic Law calls for issuing an AED 400 fine for licenses with unclear numbers.

The awareness campaign kicks off on August 4, 2019, taking place over the course of an entire month, including inspection campaigns. Violations will not be registered in the traffic system if license plates are renewed within 14 days of the fines being issued.

Waste sorting initiative contributes to the emirate’s sustainable development goals

To enhance environmental awareness among local communities in Ras Al Khaimah, the Department of Public Services has launched the ‘Bag in Bin’ campaign in Al Naeem City Center, with the initiative aiming to encourage residents to make the right choice when deciding what waste receptacle to use for their refuse.

Targeting residents of Al Dhait, the two-week campaign has been set up to help generate a change in daily behaviour and to contribute to achieving the emirate’s sustainable development goals by raising awareness of the importance of waste sorting and separation and conserving the environment.

The Bag in Bin campaign is part of the broader ‘My Emirate My Home’ initiative, a five-year plan to educate the public about environmental sustainability and the correct colour bags to use for sorting and separating waste. My Emirate My Home reiterates that green bags should be used for recyclable materials, such as plastic, paper, metal cans, cardboards, newspapers, magazines and books, while brown bags should be useda for food waste. The overarching objective of the initiative is to contribute to achieving 75% recycling of waste in Ras Al Khaimah that would otherwise go to landfill sites.

Ravi Shastri appointed as RAKEZ Corporate Ambassador to the Indian Business Community

Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) has welcomed Ravi Shastri, Head Coach of the India National Cricket Team, former India Cricketer and TV commentator, as its exclusive Corporate Ambassador to the Indian business community. As the face of RAKEZ, Mr. Shastri will be representing RAKEZ in networking events, business forums and seminars, to build and sustain business relationships with key accounts and brands.

“This is the first time that we have appointed a Corporate Ambassador, and we’re very happy to have the right man on-board. Mr Shastri was a natural choice given that he’s not only an iconic Indian figure that possesses the admiration of cricket fans globally; he’s also a coach who leads teams to victories. I’m confident that he’s going to do the same for us by taking our relationship with the Indian business community to the next level – a relationship we started building almost two decades ago,” said Ramy Jallad, RAKEZ Group CEO.

Commenting on RAKEZ’s commitment to the Indian market, Mr Jallad shared: “Indian businesses have greatly contributed to Ras Al Khaimah’s economic diversification as well as the increase of employment opportunities, hence our dedication to support them. Throughout the years, we have launched numerous initiatives for the Indian investors, opened an office in Mumbai in 2006, and conducted roadshows in India to share the benefits of expanding to the UAE. Our efforts have led to over 3,300 Indian companies choosing RAKEZ as their business destination. That’s 23% of our total company population. With Mr. Shastri joining Team RAKEZ, we’re positive that he’ll be influencing more Indian business leaders to set up or expand their operations to the United Arab Emirates though RAKEZ.”

Indian companies in RAKEZ are operating across various industries with over 1,600 flourishing in the commercial field; nearly 1,000 in services; more than 350 in general trading; and around 100 in the industrial sector. The rest are spread across media, e-commerce, educational, and more. Due to the growing demand from Indian investors, RAKEZ has relocated its Mumbai office to a bigger and more central location in Bandra Kurla Complex in 2018.

Expressing his views on the collaboration with RAKEZ, Mr Shastri said: “I’m very excited and proud to be the Corporate Ambassador of RAKEZ to the Indian business community. It is one of the leading business and industrial hubs in the Middle East region, and home to many famous Indian brands. I’ve heard nothing but positive feedback from Indian companies about RAKEZ, so I am confident that I am associating myself with the right organization that has been consistently helping Indian companies go global. My goal here is to coach more Indian investors to choose the right track and play it right when it comes to their business.”

This first-of-its-kind approach is one of the many other initiatives that RAKEZ will be launching in the future to attract more investors from all over the world and boost the economic growth of Ras Al Khaimah.

“Central and Eastern European countries are amongst the fastest growing markets for us and frequently rank in our top ten source markets for visitors. The new representative office in Prague will support our promotional activities, trade partnerships and help us develop the region’s high potential outbound market” added Mattar.

Adding to Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority international representation offices in UK, Germany, Russia and Nordics, the Prague office will support RAKTDA’s initiatives to drive further awareness of the emirate as a multi-faceted leisure destination to Central and East European travellers.

In 2018 approximately 48,000 visitors from Central and Eastern Europe chose to spend their vacation in Ras Al Khaimah. The increase in demand from these markets was further highlighted by the introduction of direct flights between RAK International Airport and several cities in Poland including Warsaw, Katowice, Poznan and Wroclaw, as well as direct flights to Prague in the Czech Republic. Numerous trade activities have been organised for the coming year in the region, including webinars, networking events, workshops, FAM trips for the trade, and an exclusive Ras Al Khaimah roadshow in February 2019.

RAKTDA’s new three year strategy focuses on diversifying the emirate’s offerings to create experiences that showcase some of the finest beaches and nature in the region, the highest mountain in the UAE, a unique terracotta desert, rich history and heritage, as well as authentic Arabian cultural experiences and adventures.

</htmlData>

Hundreds of thousands of revelers lined Marjan Island and surrounding areas to see a straight line of fireworks stretching some 13km, smashing the previous record of 11.8km, and the opening sequence paying homage to the late Sheikh Zayed used a 4.6km chain comprising 11,284 fireworks.

Ras Al Khaimah Ruler H.H. Sheikh Saud is named Visionary Leader of the Year

<htmlData>

His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has been named the Visionary Leader of the Year for 2018 at an awards ceremony in Dubai.

H.H. Sheikh Saud delivered the keynote speech at the Arabian Business Awards, thanking his brothers, the UAE leadership; the people of Ras Al Khaimah for their commitment to his development plans; and Arabian Business magazine for the honor.

“I would like to acknowledge and thank the leadership of the UAE, who have created a safe and prosperous home for many. Without their vision, this country would not be the great country it is today,” H.H. Sheikh Saud told an audience at the Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah.

“I’m also fortunate to be leading so many hardworking and talented individuals. In addition to the Emirati people, Ras Al Khaimah is home to all races and religions – all of whom help to make it one of the greatest places in the world.

"This award is for the wonderful people of Ras Al Khaimah and the UAE.”

H.H. Sheikh Saud received the award in a year that began with a world record-breaking fireworks display on Ras Al Khaimah’s Marjan Island; saw the Emirate’s tourist numbers hit a record high of 1 million visitors for the year; saw the longest zip line in the world open atop Jebel Jais; and saw native businesses achieve monumental milestones, such as RAK Ports’ opening of the first of two deep-water berths and RAKGAS signing a production-sharing agreement with the Government of Zanzibar.

Ali Akawi, CEO of ITP Media Group, said: “There is no better example of a Visionary Leader than Sheikh Saud. Under his leadership, Ras Al Khaimah has developed a hugely successful, diverse economy, including attracting over a million tourists to the Emirate this year alone.

“The Emirate has grown into a place where people can prosper, under a strong rule of law, and one in which every Government department is striving on a daily basis to reach its aims.”

Jeremy Lawrence, Editorial Director at Arabian Business, added: “Awarding the Visionary Leader of the Year to Sheikh Saud was the clear and immediate choice of every single member of our team, to recognize his great achievements, values, vision and leadership. His Highness is truly a role model for all of us.”

The award follows H.H. Sheikh Saud receiving an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Economics from Incheon National University in South Korea in May, 2018.

RAK Ports completes phase 1 of deep-water Cape-size berth project at Saqr Port

<htmlData>

RAK Ports has unveiled the opening of the first of two new deep-water shipping berths at Saqr Port, one of the largest bulk-handling ports in the Middle East.

The opening of the first berth was announced at the SeaTrade Maritime Middle East 2018 conference in Dubai, with the second due to be operational in March 2019.

The deep-water berth project will allow Cape-size vessels to access the port, which already handles more than 55 million tons of cargo each year.

RAK Ports CEO Captain Cliff Brand said: “The opening of our first new berth at Saqr Port significantly increases the capacity of Saqr Port, which already handles in excess of 55 million tons of cargo per year, and with the second new berth scheduled to complete in March 2019, we envision significant growth in the number of vessel and cargo movements through Saqr Port in future years, consolidating Saqr Port’s status as one of the region’s leading bulk-handling ports.”

The first quarter of 2019 should also see the arrival of the first vessel to Ras Al Khaimah Port’s new, state-of-the-art cruise terminal in the heart of the city. The terminal is designed for boutique cruise vessels, adding to the Emirate’s growing array of tourism options.

Ras Al Khaimah’s Department of Antiquities and Museums has developed a collaboration with the Palace Museum, Beijing, and Durham University, in the UK, to conduct a scientific study in the Emirate to learn more about the Chinese pottery discovered here in recent years.

Currently, a team of Palace Museum and Durham University experts under Prof Li Ji, Director of the Archaeology Institute, Palace Museum, and Professor Wang Guangyao, Deputy Director of the Archaeology Institute, Palace Museum, are visiting the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah to study the various pieces of pottery with a view to conducting an excavation in the future.

Prof Guangyao is the leading expert in the world on blue and white pottery from China.

H.H. Working with the prestigious Palace Museum and Durham University will unearth further discoveries and improve our understanding of the past.

“Only by knowing one’s past can we look forward with confidence, backed by the power of knowledge.”

Ahmed Al Teneiji, General Manager of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, said: “Julfar, as Ras Al Khaimah was previously known, was a major hub on the old trading route from east to west, so it is no surprise that a lot of Chinese pottery has been discovered here.

“This collaboration with Palace Museum and Durham University will allow us to better understand the ancient trade links between this region and China.”

The Chinese pottery found in Eastern Arabia points to very extensive trade, which is known to have started between the 3rd century B.C. and the 3rd century A.D. Until now, little research has been done on the trade links between China and this region. Extensive excavation sites in Ras Al Khaimah have uncovered many interesting finds but they will be revisited to specifically better understand the trade activities and socio-economic impact of 11 centuries of trade between China and what is now Ras Al Khaimah.

Addressing the opening ceremony, H.H. Sheikh Saud said: “Ras Al Khaimah is truly honored to have you here.

“In a relatively short period of time, Ras Al Khaimah has changed from a quiet, agricultural town, where a formal education was hard to come by, to become a thriving Emirate.

“Our economy has been growing steadily at a rate of between 5 and 7% in each of the past 5 years. That is because, among other things, we have small set-up costs, affordable accommodation, numerous trade agreements in place and a great location.”

H.H. Sheikh Saud said that tourism only contributes 5% to Ras Al Khaimah’s overall GDP, compared to the biggest sector, manufacturing, at about 30%, but that the dynamics were changing.

“We aim to increase tourism’s GDP contribution to 10% by 2025,” the Ruler said. “Already, the sector has been growing at a rate of about 19% year-on-year.

“We will have 1 million visitors by the end of this year in Ras Al Khaimah and we have an achievable target of 2.9 million per year by 2025.”

During AHIC in Ras Al Khaimah, which is the highest-attended conference in its 14-year history, His Excellency Mohamed Alabbar, Founder and Chairman of Emaar Properties, announced the launch of his company’s first hotel and residences project in Ras Al Khaimah.

Located in the Views island of Al Marjan Island, a man-made four-island tourism hub, Address Hotel Al Marjan Island will comprise 249 rooms, including suites, while Address Residences Al Marjan Island will comprise 234 high-end apartments.

AHIC is returning to Ras Al Khaimah in 2019, from April 9-11, with an array of high-level speakers and panel discussions.

Guinness World Record-breaking zipline opens on Ras Al Khaimah’s Jebel Jais mountain

<htmlData>

The longest zipline in the world – measuring 2.83km - has opened on Jebel Jais, Ras Al Khaimah, the highest peak in the UAE.

Guinness World Record officials handed the certification to H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, at the launch platform amid stunning mountain views, while H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saud Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Hospitality Holding and RAK Petroleum, was the first to try the new tourist experience.

Haitham Mattar, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, said: “This is a great achievement for Ras Al Khaimah’s international tourism ambitions. We are now receiving our largest-ever number of visitor arrivals and are confident that Jebel Jais Flight: the world’s longest zipline, will earn the UAE’s Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah considerable recognition on the local, regional and global stage and propel the destination into the major leagues of global adventure tourism.

“The Jebel Jais Flight will become Ras Al Khaimah’s flagship tourism product and will cement Jebel Jais as the adventure tourism hub of the Middle East. We are expecting to see an increasing number of adventure tourists coming from across the globe to try this bucket list experience.”

The zipline has two main cables, meaning two people can ride in tandem at speeds of up to 150km per hour during the 2-3 minute experience. Operators Toroverde UAE anticipate being able to accommodate about 200 people per day and 100,000 riders per year.

The zipline was more than a year in the making and the steel cables, weighing more than six tons, were suspended 1,680 metres above sea level using extremely strong anchor holes that took six months to drill into the rugged Hajar Mountains.

The development process involved extensive feasibility studies, master-planning, comprehensive surveys, soil tests and construction simulations. Sustainable environmental practices were at the forefront of planning throughout.
