The American University of Ras Al Khaimah’s (AURAK) students from the School of Engineering won first and third place in the 12th Annual American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Wooden Bridge Competition held at the American University in Dubai on March 19, 2022.
The competition was designed to allow each team the opportunity to build a model wooden bridge that was evaluated based on the design, construction and load-testing.
The team from the ASCE Student Chapter at AURAK competed against engineering student teams from the top ranked universities in the UAE including United Arab Emirates University, American University of Sharjah, University of Sharjah and American University in Dubai.
The AURAK team led by ASCE Student Chapter President Abdelrahman Abdelrahman and the Vise President Abdulqadir Msabah under the mentorship of Dr. Fayez Moutassem, Assistant Professor of Structural Engineering, participated in the competition with two bridges and won first place trophy and golden medals for the best target load capacity and third place trophy with bronze medals for bridge load efficiency.
The competition was an opportunity for AURAK students to proudly represent their university, expand their horizons and develop team spirit.
