Head of the Local Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Team in Ras Al Khaimah Announces New Set of Procedures and Precautions Against COVID-19

The announcement comes as the Emirates prepares for the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ras Al Khaimah Police and Head of the Local Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Team in Ras Al Khaimah, announced that a new set of procedures and precautions have been implemented in the Emirate in accordance with the Team’s directives ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the Holy Month.

The new preventive and health measures include a ban on setting up Iftar tents or communal Iftars in public places. Iftar meals cannot be distributed in front of homes unless those wishing to do so coordinate with authorities, UAE-based charities or a restaurant.

On the same note, H.E. Munther Al Zaabi, Member of the Local Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Team in Ras Al Khaimah, Director General of the RAK Municipality Department, called on restaurant owners to take the utmost precaution and ensure stringent hygiene and public health requirements are met when preparing meals, which includes ensuring kitchen staff are healthy.

Meals should be placed in sealed boxes or bags, H.E. Al Zaabi added, cautioning that distributing Iftar meals is banned both inside and in front of restaurants, with distribution limited to residential labor complexes only, in coordination between restaurants and the management at these facilities. Furthermore, selling at restaurants will be restricted to regular meals, while strict precautionary and preventive measures are followed, including mandatory wearing of masks and gloves by service providers.

Gatherings are not allowed before or after receiving Iftar meals, and a safe distance of at least two meters should be maintained between people, who must also wear protective masks at all times.

H.E. Al Zaabi warned that in the event that restaurants or individuals do not comply with these conditions or fail to implement precautionary and preventive measures, they will be held legally accountable. The objective, he stressed, is to ensure health and safety, and protect the community from the spread of COVID-19.

H.E. applauded the efforts made by the Local Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Team in Ras Al Khaimah to avert an outbreak of the virus, ensure safety and health for the community, and prevent diseases or loss of life.
