The outcomes of this collaboration are expected to reinforce the reach and impact of the Energy Management program, part of Ras Al Khaimah Energy Efficiency and Renewables Strategy 2040.

Ras Al Khaimah Municipality has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), establishing a framework for collaboration in the field of energy management.

The MoU was signed over a virtual meeting by H.E. Munther Mohammed Bin Shekar, Director General of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality and Wolfgang Knoll, CEO of AIT. The MoU will promote effective knowledge sharing in areas including energy efficiency initiatives for the industrial sector, sustainable energy program development, awareness and capacity building.

H.E. Munther Mohammed bin Shekar said: “The Government of Ras Al Khaimah is committed to the successful implementation of Ras Al Khaimah Energy Efficiency and Renewables Strategy 2040. We welcome the collaboration with Austrian Institute of Technology, since their unique expertise in industrial energy efficiency in Austria can be relevant for us in developing effective programs for high intensity energy users in Ras Al Khaimah.”

Wolfgang Knoll, AIT Managing Director said: “The AIT has know-how and many years of experience to promote efficient renewable energy supply and decarbonization in the country. One of our focal points is the development of technologies to make production processes more efficient, but also to use existing energies such as industrial waste heat. Furthermore we conduct a lot of research on the integration of volatile renewable energy in energy systems.”

Throughout 2020, the Government of Ras Al Khaimah has taken significant steps in the field of energy efficiency, including the deployment of energy-saving quick wins and introduction of best practices of energy management. The collaboration with AIT is expected to support the expansion of these initiatives to a larger share of the Ras Al Khaimah economy, as part of the Ras Al Khaimah Energy Efficiency and Renewables Strategy 2040. The Strategy, established under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, targets 30% energy savings, 20% water savings, and 20% contribution of electricity from renewable sources by 2040.
