Ras Al Khaimah Ruler opens RAK Energy Summit

27 November 2024

H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, delivered a keynote speech at the opening of the second RAK Energy Summit today, outlining Ras Al Khaimah’s commitment to a sustainable future driven by innovation and international collaboration,

The summit opened in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah, and Sheikh Ahmed bin Saud Al Qasimi, Chairman of Ras Al Khaimah’s Public Services Department.

On the first day of the two-day Summit at Al Hamra International Exhibition & Conference Center, in front of an audience of about 1,000 high-profile attendees, H.H. Sheikh Saud said. “In Ras Al Khaimah, we aspire to be at the forefront of global developments in the future of a sustainable energy sector, which is why we have made a strategic commitment to reduce energy consumption by 30 percent across our Emirate by 2040.

“Energy is central to our lives and our economy and, without it, we can neither survive nor thrive. It is therefore imperative that we build a future where energy is readily available, reliable, affordable, and crucially, sustainable.”

H.H. Sheikh Saud was keen to stress that growth should not and will not come at the expense of Ras Al Khaimah’s natural environment and ecological heritage. Growth, he said, should “respect, complement, and, wherever possible, enhance” the natural environment.

“We are making Ras Al Khaimah sustainable in every sense of the word,” H.H. Sheikh Saud added. “We recognise that energy is the essential enabler of this transformation.

“We are eager to adopt best practices from across the region and the world. Our government and private sector partners are open to innovative ideas and ready to collaborate with counterparts that share our vision. By working together, we can achieve far more than we ever could alone.”

On the sidelines of the Summit, HH Sheikh Saud met several UAE leaders in the energy sector, including Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade; Sharif Al Olama, Under-Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure; and Ambassador Majid Al Suwaidi, Chief Executive Officer of ALTÉRRA and Director-General & Special Representative of the COP28 Presidency.

He also met regional leaders, including Saad bin Muhammad Alsmeiri, Director-General of Madinaty Center, Jeddah Municipality in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah Ahmed Al Karrani, Acting Assistant Under-Secretary of General Services Affairs at Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality, and Dr. Mohammed Al Kalbani, Director-General of Sustainable Energy at the Authority for Public Services Regulation in Oman, as well as several international leaders in the energy sector.

RAK Energy Summit 2024 is supported by Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) as Lead Partner, and the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and more than 15 local government entities in Ras Al Khaimah.
