Ras Al Khaimah breaks two Guinness World Records with NYE 2019 fireworks display at Marjan Island

1 January 2019

Ras Al Khaimah’s Marjan Island hosted a scintillating fireworks display for New Year 2019 – breaking two world records in the process.

New Guinness World Records for “the longest straight line of fireworks” and “longest chain of fireworks” were set, adding to the “largest aerial firework shell” record set at the same location the previous New Year.

Hundreds of thousands of revelers lined Marjan Island and surrounding areas to see a straight line of fireworks stretching some 13km, smashing the previous record of 11.8km, and the opening sequence paying homage to the late Sheikh Zayed used a 4.6km chain comprising 11,284 fireworks.

The entire show lasted for 13 minutes and 20 seconds and, like last year, put Ras Al Khaimah on a global pedestal, with media coverage of the event from across the globe.

Eng. Abdulla Al Abdouli, Managing Director & CEO of Marjan, said: “The spectacular event highlighted the reputation of Ras Al Khaimah as the must-visit destination for celebrating New Year’s Eve. With visitors arriving from across the world, the event served to highlight the touristic appeal of Ras Al Khaimah and to position it as a fast-growing leisure and commercial hub in the region.

“We thank the leadership of Ras Al Khaimah for their guidance and support in accomplishing this event, and all the Government entities in the Emirate for their exceptional team work. With two Guinness World Records set, the 2019 Ras Al Khaimah New Year’s Eve Gala has been truly historic and adds to the pride of our nation.”
